A first commissioned motion capture job

An important step has just been taken. As part of the Séquences Éphémères project, run by the Anisotropie association, we have completed our first commissioned motion capture job.

Under the artistic direction and coordination of Charles, art director and project lead, a capture session was organised in our studio. For the occasion we worked with two performers:

• a former student of the Parallèle 14 school, now a partner of the Séquences Éphémères project;
• and a twelve-year-old boy, discovering the fascinating world of motion capture for the first time.

For us as an association, this session confirmed the whole point of our approach: making this technology accessible in Martinique. It showed how possible it is to bring projects back to the territory, keep budgets local, and help our partners and fellow citizens build skills. It is also a step towards wider access to digital creation, and a way of putting these tools at the service of intangible heritage.

The work is part of an immersive experience telling a chapter of Martinique’s history during the Second World War. A fine way of tying technological innovation to collective memory.

Our enormous thanks go to Charles for his trust. Used to working with internationally renowned studios such as MocapLab (Paris) and Weta (New Zealand), he chose to have his motion capture sequences produced in Martinique. That trust honours us, and it fully illustrates the spirit of Séquences Éphémères: seize the moment, capture the gesture, in order to pass on and to create.
