Observing, listening to and archiving body memories

Lab Recherche

Visit Lab Recherche de Séquences Éphémères was born of an emergency: ppreserve the ephemeral nature of the living gesture, and pass it on in a new way.

We combine cutting-edge tools with a sensitive approach, to build a living digital archive that captures the practices of our customers.
musico-choreography, gestures, rhythms, emotions, invisible interactions between bodies and sounds - from Martinique, the Caribbean and the world.

Our approach builds bridges between the arts and sciences, between research and practice. It is part of a spirit of regional cooperation and international openness, to think about tomorrow's heritage with those who live it today.

A living archive of movement

We are building a digital archive of musical and choreographic practices in Martinique and the Caribbean, using motion capture and biometric capture tools. This intangible heritage is precisely documented, with a view to transmission, conservation and creation. The archive is conceived as a living organism: it evolves, updates and is shared.

Understanding the invisible: sensors and sensations

In addition to motion capture, we integrate biometric sensors (electrodermal activity, heart rate, breathing, etc.) to analyze sensitive interactions between performers and audiences. This approach enables us to better understand the emotions, circulations of attention and forms of presence at work in traditional and contemporary practices.

Data sharing and scientific processing

The data collected is designed to be useful to the scientific and artistic community. They can be consulted, analyzed and noted by researchers, choreographers, anthropologists or experts in kinetography. We also develop in-house processing tools and methodologies adapted to the specificities of the practices studied.

Caribbean scientific cooperation

The research program is rooted in a strong regional dynamic: data exchanges, cross-residencies, networking of Caribbean institutions. We're working to build a transdisciplinary research ecosystem in which local practices interact, reinforce each other and think together on a Caribbean scale.

Dialogues and openness to the world

We encourage comparative approaches between the choreographic and musical practices of Martinique and those of other regions of the world: West Africa, Europe, the Americas. This international openness enables us to reposition Caribbean gestures within a global history of bodies, rhythms and transmissions.
